We are thrilled to have recently completed a full-scale renovation and restoration of the Golden-Age Annandale Golf Club in Pasadena, California. Originally founded in 1906, Annandale holds a revered place in California golf history as one of the state’s earliest private clubs.

The current routing, crafted from the original design of William Watson, was renovated and extended into the far-reaching canyons beneath the San Gabriel Mountains in the mid-1920’s by the legendary architect William P. Bell. Bell’s routing and strategic artistry established Annandale as a benchmark for Southern California golf. Restoring many elements of his design was a focus of the project, ensuring Bell’s spirit now once again defines its character.

“This project represented a rare and exciting opportunity to restore one of William P. Bell’s most beautiful designs,” said Todd Eckenrode, Principal of Origins Golf Design. “Annandale’s history, setting, and membership make it a truly special place, and we are honored to have played a role in bringing its classic features back to life.”

The scope of work was comprehensive, encompassing all-new tees, greens, bunkers, fairways, irrigation, grassing, and selective turf reduction-each element thoughtfully executed to reestablish the integrity and intent of Bell’s original design. Particular emphasis was placed on restoring the much-heralded natural drainage swales and interconnected systems that were central to Bell’s vision. The result revives Annandale’s classic shot values, visual drama, and natural flow, while ensuring the course meets modern expectations for playability, sustainability, and maintenance.

“I am thrilled we have reached this milestone of completing construction and really look forward to seeing the course grow-in and mature over the coming summer months”, says Todd Eckenrode.

This exceptional outcome is the result of a collaborative effort among the Club’s leadership, its supportive membership, and a talented project team. Special recognition on the project team goes to the Gradoville-Hertzing Project Management Group, LaBar Golf, Harvey Irrigation Pros and the outstanding shaping work of Matt Flint and Ben Malech.

“Just six months ago, we broke ground on this exciting and very meaningful project for the Club.  We couldn’t be happier with where we are today, with the design and construction wrapping up, on-time and on-budget”, says Steve Mena, member and Project Chairman for Annandale Golf Club. The club is anticipating an early October 2026 opening.
